Florida electricity bills are skyrocketing. Utility regulators have become a rubber stamp for astronomical utility rate hikes — allowing utilities to pass on the costs of fossil fuels, exorbitant corporate profits, and most recently, AI data center buildout. Enough is enough.

We need our governor and Florida state legislators to fight for affordable, clean energy by passing legislation to hold utilities and utility regulators accountable.

I urge you to support Public Service Commission (PSC) reform legislation, which will make electricity more affordable and reliable, while fighting the buildout of AI data centers and costly fossil fuel infrastructure.

Last year, the Florida PSC approved the largest utility rate hike in U.S. history — costs that will fall on the backs of the very people who are struggling to keep the lights on. Half of every dollar in this proposal goes straight to shareholder profits, not essential services. That’s unacceptable.

This year, after the Florida Legislature passed legislation to protect Florida families and small businesses from paying for AI data centers, Duke Energy is trying to exploit a potential loophole to pass those costs to ratepayers.

Next year, Tampa Electric and Duke Energy plan to raise rates again.
 
The cost of electricity has become unaffordable because the PSC rubber stamps every request that utilities make.

Let’s face it: The PSC is broken. We need you to fight for affordable, reliable energy and pass legislation to hold utilities and the PSC accountable.

We need legislation that:

- Reduces electricity bills and increases accountability from utilities
 - Reforms the Public Service Commission to allow Florida residents to better engage with utility rate hike request cases
 - Creates safeguards that ensure data centers do not lead to higher electricity bills for residents and small businesses or harm our water resources and local environments
 - Ensures utility companies do not pass higher fuel costs onto Florida residents
 - Enforces a cap on the return on equity (ROE) for Florida utilities that is in line with national averages to protect Florida ratepayers and small businesses from unnecessarily high electricity costs

The Public Service Commission is charged with ensuring fair rates — not maximizing utility profits. I strongly urge you to support PSC reform legislation and send a clear message that Floridians come first.
