Congress: No Fast Tracking Data Center Infrastructure!

Urgent: Congress is moving a package of bills forward that would fast track dirty energy projects for unwanted AI data centers.

Big Tech wants to speed up large electricity projects to accommodate the explosive growth of data centers, and Congress is poised to help them.

This pro-data center bill package would make it easier to pollute our communities while neglecting to address the broader costs and cumulative impacts of data center growth.

As your constituent, I’m writing to oppose the package of grid and large load legislation being considered by the Subcommittee on Energy.

This package of bills creates a policy framework aimed at facilitating the expansion of large electricity projects needed to accommodate large scale data centers, while neglecting to address the broader costs and cumulative impacts of data center growth on communities.

The bills – including the "Ratepayer Protection Act" (H.R.9340), the “Protecting Families from AI Data Center Energy Costs Act” (H.R. 6529), the “Load Forecasting Enhancement Act" (H.R. 9332), the “Affordable Innovation for the Grid Act” (H.R. 9339), the “Advanced Transmission Technology to Reduce Rates Act” (H.R. 9335), Expanding Generator Interconnection Procedures Act of 2025, and the “High-Capacity Grid Act" (H.R. 6633) – largely ignore issues impacting communities, including growing water demand and water scarcity, rising water and wastewater infrastructure costs, increasing air and water pollution, loss of farmland, forests, wildlife habitat, and other undeveloped land and the cumulative effects of concentrated data center development on communities, local ecosystems, public health and quality of life.

We don’t want these projects anywhere near our communities. I urge you to oppose any policies that make it easier to accommodate data center growth. We need an immediate pause on the unfettered expansion of data centers and their energy infrastructure until we understand the full impacts of these projects and have a comprehensive framework to protect the public and our natural resources from them.

I urge you to oppose the package of grid and large load legislation that would fast track data center infrastructure projects and instead, support a national moratorium on data center projects.
