Governor Hochul: Sign the Data Center Moratorium Bill!

Governor Hochul just issued an executive order enacting the first statewide data center moratorium in the country. This is a huge step forward in the fight to keep these polluting data centers out of our state, but it’s up to us to make sure New York takes the next step.

Thankfully, the Legislature recently passed an even stronger measure establishing a moratorium, requiring in-depth studies and public participation, and enacting other needed regulations. Governor Hochul must sign this critical legislation into law!

The explosion of data centers is one of the worst affordability and environmental threats facing New York, risking more fossil fuel pollution, strained water resources, and rising utility bills.

Urge Governor Hochul to stand with the people, not the polluters, by signing the data center moratorium bill too!

I was excited to see your executive order establishing the first statewide moratorium on data centers in the country. This is a huge and necessary first step, but we must continue to go further to protect New Yorkers.

To that end, I urge you to sign legislation (A11560/S10642) establishing a one-year moratorium on data centers in New York.

The explosion of data centers is one of the worst affordability and environmental threats facing New York. This expansion risks rapidly increasing demand for energy, driving more fossil fuel pollution, straining water resources, devouring land, undermining the reliability of our electrical grid, and raising utility bills.

The Responsible Data Center Development Act would help defend our communities from the rampant construction of data centers. It would provide the breathing room we need to win additional rules and regulations necessary to protect ratepayers and our health, communities, and environment. And it would set a national precedent in the fight against this reckless and greedy industry.

Please press the pause button on data centers in New York and sign the Responsible Data Center Development Act into law NOW.
