Floridians are paying some of the highest energy bills in the country, while for-profit utilities like Tampa Electric Company (TECO), Florida Power and Light (FPL), and Duke Energy prioritize shareholder profits over community needs. These rising costs are hitting working families, seniors, and low-income residents the hardest.
But while utility companies continue to request astronomical rate hikes, our governor-appointed utility regulators regularly approve them.
Affordable energy has not been a priority for many state leaders, and that needs to change.
That's why we need constituents and local governments calling on our state legislators to stop astronomical rate hikes from harming Florida families.
Urge Tampa City Council members to call for state leaders to enact affordable energy reform to lower electricity bills and hold utilities and their regulators accountable to the people they serve.
