Clean water is under attack. Republicans in Congress are poised to severely undermine critical water protections in the coming days.

The PERMIT Act (H.R. 3898) and the SPEED Act (H.R. 4776) work together to chip away at our country’s core environmental laws, enabling agricultural pollution and speeding up fossil fuel pipeline construction. These bills make it easier for big polluters to dirty our water and harm our communities, all so factory farms and fossil fuel corporations can boost their profits.

I urge you to vote NO on the PERMIT Act (H.R. 3898) and the SPEED Act (H.R. 4776). These bills are a direct attack on the safeguards that keep pollution out of our drinking water, rivers, and air, and they hand even more power to factory farms, fossil fuel corporations, and PFAS polluters.

The PERMIT Act would punch massive holes in the Clean Water Act, our bedrock law for stopping water pollution. It would strip protections from many waterways, make it harder to rein in dangerous “forever chemicals” like PFAS, and allow more toxic waste and pesticides from factory farms to flow into our water without real oversight.

The SPEED Act would gut the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and silence communities on the frontlines of pollution. It would let federally-backed factory farms and other industrial projects move forward with little or no environmental review, no meaningful public notice, and sharply limited chances for people to challenge harm in court, even when their health and water are at risk.

This is a blatant deregulatory push that sacrifices our health, our environment, and our democratic right to be heard so that big polluters can operate with fewer rules. At a time of escalating threats from PFAS, pipelines, and factory farm waste, Congress must strengthen our protections, not tear them down.

I urge you to stand with the people you represent, not polluters, by voting NO on the PERMIT Act (H.R. 3898) and the SPEED Act (H.R. 4776) and opposing any effort to weaken our bedrock environmental laws. Your vote will make clear whose side you are on: the side of clean water, public health, and community voices, or the side of corporate polluters.
