Stop the NESE Pipeline!

The NESE pipeline project is back from the dead!

NESE Is a dirty gas project that would include a 23-mile pipeline through the Raritan Bay and a new compressor station in Somerset County. If built, it would threaten the health and safety of Central Jersey communities, disturb habitat for animals in the Bay, and lead to more fracking and methane emissions that are fueling climate change.

We defeated NESE in 2024, and we can do it again. Tell Governor Murphy and the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection to deny the NESE permits!

The public comment deadline has been extended to September 24, 2025.

I urge you to reject the pending applications for permits related to the Williams Companies’ Northeast Supply Enhancement (“NESE”) pipeline project.

If approved, this dirty fossil fuel project would include approximately 23 miles of open trenched pipeline through the Raritan Bay, and a new compressor station in Somerset County. The compressor station would pollute the air with methane and harmful volatile organic compounds, threatening the health and safety of Central Jersey residents. A pipeline through the Raritan Bay would disturb sensitive habitats for clams, horseshoe crabs, fish, and other marine animals.

What’s more, this proposal is a step backwards for our energy policy and the environment. It would commit the region to more dirty fossil fuels, lead to increased fracking in Pennsylvania, and further exacerbate the climate crisis.

Your Administration has rejected permits for NESE in 2019. Williams is now trying to revive the project again — but it is still a bad deal for New Jersey.

We need to stop the expansion of all dirty fossil fuel infrastructure. Please deny the NESE project’s pending applications for permits.
