New Yorkers need lower bills and cleaner air!
The City Council must close a dangerous loophole created by Mayor Adams in Local Law 97, New York City’s Green New Deal for buildings.
This loophole allows building owners to buy their way out of reducing their pollution by purchasing Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) in place of cutting about 50 percent of the greenhouse gases they produce.
Passed in 2019, Local Law 97 is setting an example for the nation on how to lower energy bills, create good jobs, and reduce air pollution while helping meet our urgent climate goals.
Urge your council member to co-sponsor and champion Intro 1180, legislation closing Mayor Adams’ loophole.
