Oppose Fast-Track Approvals for New Gas & Nuclear Power Plants

Maryland lawmakers will soon vote on a bill to fast-track the buildout of dangerous fracked gas plants and nuclear reactors in our state. We know that these new power plants would have serious health and environmental consequences in our communities.

The Next Generation Energy Act (SB 937/HB 1025) would direct the state’s utility commission to presume that any new power plant project is "appropriate" and "consistent," a key designation that companies need to begin construction. That designation puts into question whether officials can reject a new project should health or environmental assessments show legitimate cause to deny the permit.

Please urge your legislators to reject the Next Generation Energy Act and oppose giving new power plants a green light to build in our communities.
