Good news: the New York Senate passed legislation that lowers energy bills by eliminating massive subsidies for fracked gas. With only days remaining in Albany, the Assembly must act swiftly to make energy more affordable while moving off fossil fuels.
The Customer Savings and Reliability Act (S8421/A8889) is a new bill resulting from negotiations between the Senate and Assembly over the NY HEAT Act. It eliminates the requirement that ratepayers pay for pipeline expansions and enables communities to choose less expensive renewable heating.
We’re close to winning a crucial victory, but the fossil fuel industry remains a powerful opponent. Assembly members must urge Speaker Carl Heastie to pass legislation for cleaner heat and lower bills in the few days left in the legislative session.
Send a message to your assembly member: Our bills are too damn high and we need climate action. Pass the Customer Savings and Reliability Act now!
