Governor Shapiro: Hands Off Chester's Water!

The City of Chester is in bankruptcy and facing a fiscal crisis. The state-appointed city manager, called a receiver, just proposed a plan to lease off the publicly owned water, sewer, and stormwater systems to the highest bidder. This would lead to massive rate hikes on Chester and surrounding communities — hitting low-income households hardest.

Urge Governor Shapiro to stop the water grab and provide the real resources that communities need!

Since 2017, private water corporations have tried to take advantage of the city’s crisis and force a hostile takeover of the well-run Chester Water Authority. We need real solutions for Chester and other environmental justice communities, not corporate water grabs.

Petition to Governor Shapiro:

I urge you to tell your appointed financial receiver for the city of Chester to stop the water grab and rescind his recent water plan. Do not allow him to cash out the invaluable public water assets. Instead, protect water and wastewater systems as public assets and affordable services.

Please revoke any and all policies that promote water and wastewater privatization schemes. Instead, take a stand for public water and for cities like Chester by providing the real resources that distressed cities need.
