Both houses of the New York legislature have taken action to ban fracking with carbon dioxide! The oil and gas industry embraced CO₂ fracking as a new scheme to evade New York's decade-long ban on fracking, but the anti-fracking movement showed up once again, and the Legislature voted to send the frackers packing.

Now we need Governor Hochul to sign the ban into law. This is a simple bill protecting a landmark environmental victory that so many of us worked so hard to achieve, but Governor Hochul still needs to hear from you to ensure she signs the CO₂ fracking ban into law.

I'm writing to urge you to sign the ban on carbon dioxide (CO2) fracking passed by both houses of the Legislature (A8866/S8357).

The oil and gas industry is back in New York, trying to evade our landmark ban on fracking by drilling thousands of new gas wells using pressurized carbon dioxide (CO2) instead of water.

The Assembly and Senate passed the CO2 fracking bill, and now it's time for you to sign it into law.

It's been a decade since we won a ban on fracking in New York, but fossil fuel corporations are still trying to frack for gas in our state.

Fracking with carbon dioxide clearly goes against the intention of New York’s nation-leading fracking ban. What’s more, the proposal to use proven-to-fail carbon capture technology in order to do so is absurd and dangerous for our climate and communities. Using carbon dioxide from burning fossil fuels to extract even more fossil fuels will only worsen our growing climate crisis. It does nothing but provide a lifeline for the fossil fuel industry at a moment when we must move off fossil fuels as fast as possible.

Whether it's extracted with precious water supplies or energy-intensive carbon scams, fracked gas has no place in New York’s future. I urge you to ban CO2 fracking by signing A8866/S8357 into law now.
