Newsom: No Bailout for Utilities Behind Deadly Wildfires

As one of his last acts as Governor, Gavin Newsom is working on another bailout for the utilities behind some of California’s most costly and deadly wildfires. This would be the third giveaway to utilities in the past year. The result of the first two? Edison’s profits more than tripled.

Tell Governor Newsom and your representatives in Sacramento that the utilities behind deadly wildfires should be held accountable, not rewarded!

In September 2025, Newsom signed SB 254, which gave utilities billions in additional liability protections and allowed them to shift costs to customers. Then Newsom’s Public Utilities Commission approved over $1 billion dollars in revenue and $1 billion in retroactive pay for Edison.

And what are utilities doing with their profits? Not working to better serve California families — instead, they undertook the largest utility lobby campaign in state history and created a utility funded-front group that claimed to speak for wildfire victims to make it seem like there is support for Newom’s bail out.

Enough is enough. No more utility bailouts!
