Rep. Riley: Oppose the Constitution Pipeline!

The Constitution Pipeline, proposed to bring fracked gas from Pennsylvania to New York through approximately 125 miles of new 30-inch-diameter pipe, was rejected by New York State back in 2016, when the Department of Environmental Conservation denied a key water quality permit. The ultimate defeat of the pipeline years later has protected New York’s water, air, and climate, and been a key step toward ending our reliance on fossil fuels.

Now, Trump and the developer behind the pipeline, Williams Company, want to bring the proposal back from the dead by cutting corners and bypassing New York State’s approval.

We're fighting these attempts, but we also need our representatives to oppose the pipeline. Josh Riley’s district would be significantly impacted by the pipeline. He needs to hear from his constituents and stand up for local communities against this unwanted, polluting project.

Tell Representative Riley: Speak out against the Constitution Pipeline! It would be devastating to New York’s waterways and forests, and we don't want it. It must be defeated again.

Please make a public statement against Williams Company's Constitution Pipeline to protect New Yorkers from the threats to our waterways and the rising cost of gas infrastructure.

The proposed Constitution Pipeline route spans approximately 125 miles from Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania, to Schoharie County, New York, crossing more than 250 waterways along the way. From dredging and erosion to sedimentation and increased turbidity, the pipeline threatens water quality, sensitive streams, trout habitats, wetlands, and ecosystems that communities throughout the region rely on.

These risks extend far beyond the environment. The pipeline threatens local economies built around agriculture, tourism, outdoor recreation, fishing, and small businesses, while placing additional burdens on communities already facing the impacts of fossil fuel infrastructure.

Pipelines are already saddling ratepayers with billions of dollars of costs passed down from utilities that contract with pipeline companies. Academic research broadly concludes that an electricity system that is based on 100 percent renewable energy and storage is not only feasible, but would be comparable or cheaper for consumers than the current electricity grid.

Nothing has changed since this project was defeated the first time around to make it any less damaging to our environment, and it’s not any more necessary now, either. In fact, analyses continue to show there is no economic need for the pipeline. Instead, ratepayers could be left footing the bill for unnecessary infrastructure while remaining vulnerable to volatile gas prices and worsening climate impacts.

New Yorkers and communities along the proposed route have overwhelmingly opposed this project for years. You should too.

Please do everything in your power to oppose the Constitution Pipeline and stand up for your constituents who would be harmed by this project.
